Trump's Market Massacre
How Trump Crashed the Economy on Purpose, and the GOP Helped Him Profit From the Wreckage
Tariffs are just the warm-up act
Welcome to The Wisecrackers' Desk! I'm Tracy Rigdon, and I call political bullshit exactly what it is. No filters, no corporate sponsors telling me to tone it down, just raw, honest analysis of America's political circus. Whether you're a longtime reader, someone who's sampled paid content before, or you've just discovered my work, I'm grateful you're here. My unfiltered take on the headlines mainstream media tiptoes around and the political hypocrisy that deserves exposure has resonated with readers who appreciate straight talk about the mess we're all witnessing.
While I'm thrilled to have readers at any level, paid subscribers make this work sustainable and get full access to my most in-depth analysis. If my no-nonsense approach has ever made you nod in agreement, laugh out loud, or think differently about politics, I'd be grateful if you'd consider becoming a paid subscriber. Your support keeps the uncensored truth flowing, profanity and all. (Fair warning: This newsletter contains colorful language. Politics these days demands it.) Thank you for reading!
He smiled. That's what made it worse. As the stock market cratered and the economy went into convulsions, Donald Trump stood at a podium with that smug, twisted grin, like a man who just burned down your house and called it a fucking renovation. On April 2, 2025, he announced a sweeping 10% global tariff policy that would slap an even higher penalty, up to 25%, on allies like Canada and Mexico. Within 48 hours, the Dow bled out. The S&P 500 dropped over 9%. Nasdaq dove into bear territory. Four trillion dollars of American wealth just… vanished. And instead of offering stability, instead of reassurance, Trump posted a TikTok video, yes, a fucking TikTok, boasting that he was crashing the market on purpose to “force the Fed’s hand.” This wasn’t incompetence. This wasn’t bluster. This was economic terrorism, streamed in real-time by a man more interested in power than prosperity.
The blueprint was brutally clear. Create chaos. Trigger a market panic so violent it pushes the Federal Reserve into slashing interest rates, giving the administration the perfect setup to refinance $36 trillion in U.S. debt at basement-level interest. Drive the dollar into the ground to make exports look shiny. Wreck the global supply chain to justify "Made in America" subsidies for his cronies. Then sell the ashes as rebirth. This wasn’t policy. This was sabotage sold as strategy. A rigged demolition with a red, white, and blue bow on top.
And it worked. Apple lost $300 billion in market cap in 24 hours. Small businesses across the country were decimated. The Russell 2000, the index tracking the real backbone of this economy, collapsed into bear market territory. Treasury yields fell despite inflation still hovering at 4.3%, a sign that the bond market was betting on rate cuts from a Federal Reserve being strangled by political pressure. The economic pain wasn’t a side effect. It was the plan.
But here’s where this hellscape twists: his base loved it. They didn’t flinch. They cheered. They meme’d it. They reposted it with hashtags like #EconomicReset and #TrustThePlan. These aren’t voters anymore, they’re zealots. They've turned financial ruin into a loyalty test. They’re the ones watching their pensions drain, their grocery bills spike, and their businesses fail, and still insisting that Trump is a genius playing 5D chess. It’s not masochism. It’s cult behavior. And Trump feeds on it.
